Danimals (not the kids yoghurt, the Sydney band) have been around playing music for a while now so when I got my hands on the new track, Christmas Worms Quest For Fresh Apples, it re-affirmed my love for their slow, beat driven, glitch-tronica pop. The love child of Sydney artist Jonti Danilewitz (Sherlock's Daughter), Danimals began as a solo project but soon melded into a live five piece with not one, but three drummers - Julian Sudek (Mercy Arms), Moses Macrae (Good Buddha) and Will Russell of Sherlock's Daughter.

This band is experimental and weird but it works. They take risks by fusing electronica and indie and the results can be heard in the new track Christmas Worms Quest For Fresh Apples. You might think that the song is too busy and over-layered but it’s perfect. The song starts with a slow drum beat and trumpet sample which sounds kind of like the music is asking a question and then responding - each response being slightly different from the initial question. It immediately locks you into a groove. Unique, glitchy and synth driven samples are introduced, one sounds like lead guitar, building a catchy melody. The vocals & harmonies are the icing on the cake binding the whole song together and producing a short, sharp pop song. Catch them live as soon as you can, you won’t be disappointed. ---SK
